Summary       : Rising Gods of the East, the most popular Korean boyband, went through a split back in 2010. Yunho and Jaejoong, the eldest members in the group, have kept minimal contact since then, meeting up and such. However, as the hectic life of being in different group forced them both to put off meet ups more often than not, they grew more distant... And after four seasons only meeting up once, Jaejoong grew aware of the hollow in his heart.. the loneliness.. and he made a resolution to establish a more solid contact with that best friend of his. As he struggled to get past the awkwardness between them both, old feelings which he had tried to suppress in the past started to resurface...

A/N: I don’t know if anyone want to read this. I wrote this based on the YunJae roleplay I had done back in 2013. But well, since I never really write YunJae and I have been a part of JaeHo detox community for the longest time (since 2007), I decided to share this with you all. Hope you will find it enjoyable to read as I enjoyed writing it myself. Please do leave a comment since I do feel curious of what you think of this.
Oh this is UN-BETAED, English is not my first language and I must apologize for any mistake since it is my first time writing again after 3 years long never had written anything (college stole my free time... and RP too xD)
Important : this happened back in 2013, around the time Jaejoong released MINE album.

Chapter 1.

January, 9th 2013

It was Saturday morning in early January. The weather was nice, what with the sun decided on that beautiful morning to be visible. It shone shyly amidst the clouds, providing the needed warmth for the Earth.  That morning was probably the warmest of winter days in Seoul. People who wanted to go out on the streets didn’t need to be bundled up in layers of thick clothes; they could have only a single coat protecting their bodies from the cold.

Jaejoong stood over the balcony leaning his weight on the rails, looked out on the street and watched the few kids who tried to make a snowman. He had been staring at his phone screen, mind racing of what to text him... Yunho. He wondered if it was okay for him to text out of the blue asking whether he would want to make a snowman with him or not... just because the snow in front of his apartment made quite a layer. But then again, wouldn’t it be too weird... after all, he hadn’t met up with the man since what... Jaejoong frowned. He couldn’t remember the last time he met the man.

Jaejoong shook his head and sighed, “Ahh... why do I have to make this so hard...”

Pursing his lips, he decided that it was really okay to just send a text like that. Yunho would just dismiss it as him being 4D again for all he cared. He just cared one thing at the moment... to meet his old lo—best friend... because missing the man had become more and more unbearable with each passing day.

“Hi, Jaejoong,” a smile.

Awkward silence.

“Uhm.. want to come in?”

A chuckle. “I thought you invited me.”

“....true,” Jaejoong smiled sheepishly as he moved sideways so Yunho could enter his apartment.

Closing the door, Jaejoong kicked himself mentally for his stupidity while biting his lips at the same time. He turned around and faced the tall, sun-kissed skin man before him. Yunho smiled at him and he thought that his smile was really... blinding. There he was being silly for thinking that way... just like a love-sick gir—

“Back to Earth, Kim,” Yunho waved a hand before his face.

Jaejoong blinked. “Did I...”

“...space out? No, more like drooling over me,” Yunho laughed.

“Y-yah!” Jaejoong blushed and pouted as he followed Yunho to sit on the couch facing the television. “Thanks for coming, Jung.” he managed to say as he plopped down beside Yunho. “So, how are you? Long time no see..?”

“Anytime, Kim,” Yunho shrugged and chuckled. “I’m fine... how about you? Kinda missing you here.”

Jaejoong restrained against blushing after the latter blatantly saying that he missed him. “Good then, I’m great. Pretty busy preparing for my album... and I have been missing you, too.”

“Ah, right,” Yunho nodded to himself. “Congratulation for your solo album, Kim Jaejoong.”

Jaejoong beamed, “Thanks! But it hasn’t been released just yet.”

“I know.. only the teaser pictures are released,” Yunho said, amused.

“Yes!” Jaejoong laughed. “You know how I like teasing the fans, Yunho-yah~ So you have listened to the pre-released track, One Kiss, I presumed?”

“Yup, already.. but I prefer you to sing ballad. Your voice suits it better. But One Kiss is still great,” Yunho made a show clapping his hands.

Jaejoong had to bite his lips to keep himself from grinning so wide. His heart fluttered to hear Yunho praising him. It never grew old, really. No matter how much Yunho praised him... if it came from him, it always made his heart flutter.

“You know how I really love rock.. Besides, I think I sing enough ballads.”

“You are still the best,” Yunho smiled warmly as his hand lifted and went over to squeeze Jaejoong’s thigh.

Jaejoong’s heart skipped a beat. Both from the smile and the touch.

“You are the best, too..” he replied softly. “Thank you for still protecting TVXQ’s name until this moment...”

Yunho’s face went rigid for a moment and it did not went unnoticed by the smaller man. He regretted instantly. But before Jaejoong could comment on it, Yunho retorted, “.... yeah... it’s my obligation,” Yunho smiled thinly. Silence for a moment. “Come back to us, Jaejoong-ie... to your home, TVXQ.”

Jaejoong stared at Yunho long enough before he swallowed the lump that suddenly rose up in his throat before he broke the eye-contact... looking away from Yunho’s prying eyes. He bit hard onto his lower lip.

“Ah...” Yunho let out softly. “Sorry...”

Jaejoong stood up.

“Where are you going?” Yunho’s tone rose a bit. He should have known better than to bring that up.

Jaejoong looked down and smiled to his old friend, trying to reassure him that he was not upset. But the smile wouldn’t reach his eyes. “I’m only getting us drinks. You must be thirsty, right?”

Yunho shook his head.

“Well... I am,” Jaejoong shrugged. “I will be back in a second.”

Jaejoong quickly fled from the room, wanting very much to go as far away from Yunho at that moment. He was just feeling so torn, it was time like this that made him questioned his decision long ago to leave the company. He questioned his decision, whether leaving was really for a greater good... whether what he had now was really worth parting ways with the other two members of his.

Jaejoong squeezed his eyes shut as he felt his head spun. He took a deep breath as he leaned on the kitchen counter. It is worth it... the small voice in his head supplied him with the answer. You don’t need to hide behind a façade of someone you are not anymore... keeping up with a false image of what that company wanted you to show. You can be who you are now, speak the mind of your own, do and try many things which were impossible to do... when working for them.

He nodded to himself, knowing the truth of it. To gain something, you had to be willing to lose another. It just came naturally and he had given this decision a long and a hard thought. It wasn’t like he left and abandoned Yunho and Changmin. He only left the company.  No matter what others said, Yunho and Changmin were both still his members as much as Junsu and Yoochun were. Inside his heart, he was still a TVXQ member.

A smile crept upon Jaejoong’s lips as he thought of the tattoo he had gotten long ago on his back. TVfXQ Soul. He was still a part of them forever.

Having assured himself, Jaejoong quickly grabbed two glasses and filled them with water and came back to the living room with a smile plastered on his face. “Sorry, I took long.”

“It’s fine,” Yunho smiled as he took one of the glass and drank.

Jaejoong watched as Yunho drank, thinking on how it would be nice if he could have this moment with Yunho everyday... just like in the past. He sighed heavily and mumbled, “Sorry, Yunho-yah...”

“Hm?” Yunho only raised an eyebrow.

“I’m sorry, too...”

Yunho looked at Jaejoong for the longest time before it dawned on him that Jaejoong was apologizing for earlier. “Ah... never mind it. No need to say sorry, I know what you feel so far.”

“I just can’t help... but feel sorry at times,” Jaejoong sighed once more as he lowered his gaze, looking at the floor.

Yunho stared at the man before him, thinking of ways to lift up Jaejoong’s mood. He felt guilty all over again for having brought up such sensitive topic.

“Yahh!” Jaejoong wailed as he rubbed his sore forehead. “How could you flick my forehead!”

Yunho laughed, holding his stomach.

“Stop laughing! It’s not funny!”

“Does it hurt? Sorry,” Yunho grinned, his face flushed from laughing so hard.

“It does!” Jaejoong frowned as he continued rubbing his forehead, all the while plotting revenge.

“Ya—h! Can’t..brea--!”

It was Jaejoong’s turn to laugh as he pulled Yunho’s nose. He pulled even harder and laughed like a maniac.

“Kim....” Yunho’s face darkened. He reached out and pulled Jaejoong’s ear.

“Argh--!!” Jaejoong let out a painful cry. He quickly let go of Yunho’s nose. “Hurts—hurtsss!!!”

“Eh... hurt?” Yunho smirked, never letting go of Jaejoong’s ear.

“Letgoletgoletgoletgoooo you stupid, Jung!”

“I won’t~”

“Yahh!! Stopp!!” Jaejoong cried out, cheeks flushed. “Why are you bullying me!??”

Yunho quickly let go. “I am not.. bullying.”

“Aish... you,” Jaejoong narrowed his eyes as he rubbed his ear. “I bet my ear has gotten so red now...” he said as his eyes wandered about the room. “Where is my Hello Kitty mirror again?”

Yunho chuckled. “Still using Hello Kitty mirror?”

“Huh?” Jaejoong looked back at Yunho. “Of course!”, he beamed. “Hello Kitties are cute~”

“Haha yea.. Hello Kitties and you... are...” Yunho coughed and continued under his breath. “...cute.”

“...H-huh..?” Jaejoong managed out. He fought not to blush, but he couldn’t help the heat that suddenly rose up on his cheeks.
Yunho laughed.

Jaejoong stared, bewildered, “Why are you laughing..?”

“Aniya,” Yunho shook his head. “just reminded me with something in the past.”

Jaejoong blinked and murmured, “What past? ....oh.” Jaejoong’s mind flashed to some moments... moments of awkwardness after they had done filming their banjeon drama, Dangerous Love. Days after the filming was done, they found themselves turning red in the face every time meeting each other. They couldn’t help but be embarrassed every time they met, couldn’t help remembering the awkward situation they had to put up with for the sake of the drama plot.

Yunho laughed awkwardly.

“My first scandal... was with you.”

Nodding, Yunho replied, “True, Dangerous Love. It was really... embarrassing.” Yunho laughed.

“Yes... it was so embarrassing,” Jaejoong sighed as he palmed his face. “I felt... I felt... so much like a girl...” Jaejoong admitted in a low voice.

“Well..” Yunho coughed. “You... are a girl.”

“What?” Jaejoong shot Yunho a look. His beautiful face visibly darkened as he gazed piercingly at Yunho. If looks could kill, Yunho would have been dead by now.

Yunho shook his head as he smiled. Some things just don’t change. He did know well that Jaejoong hated... absolutely resented how people always relate his looks with that of a girl’s. Still, he couldn’t help but tease him about it. “No, I’m just joking.”
Jaejoong frowned and puffed his cheeks, “What a weird joke. I’m a man, okay? Even though.. I may look like this...”

“Looking pretty?” Yunho grinned and pointed at the poster plastered on the wall. “Too pretty in there.

Jaejoong bit his lips and smiled shyly. He really hated when people called him beautiful or pretty, he preferred to be referred to as handsome. But if the compliment came from Yunho... again, it was a different matter altogether. He couldn’t help but feel hopeless at times for having such soft spot for the leader. “Uhm.. yes... That’s the concept, Yunho-yah.. Homme Fatale, means fatal beauty,” Jaejoong chuckled lightly.

“Hm.. I see,” Yunho said as he continued staring at the poster.

Jaejoong nodded and smiled as he laid his gaze on the poster, too. “I tried to look exquisite in that... so I guessed I pulled it off well, hm? Looking beautiful?” Jaejoong teased.

Yunho turned to look at Jaejoong and studied the face of a man he had known for roughly nine years now. Long eyelashes, high cheekbones, pointy nose, and those rosy lips. For a man, Jaejoong looked really stunning and ethereal. “Too... beautiful...” Yunho muttered.

“Huh?” Jaejoong quickly turned his head in Yunho’s direction. Jaejoong found himself staring into Yunho’s eyes, drowning in those chocolate warm eyes. There was something in Yunho’s eyes... something in the way Yuho looked at him that made his heart thundered like mad. “T-thank... you?”, Jaejoong rasped out at long last, hating the way he stuttered as he managed to get the words out.

“Ack--!” Jaejoong cried out as Yunho pinched his nose. He struggled to get Yunho’s hand off his nose. “What is it now? Bully time again?”

Yunho shook his head and smiled fondly. “You are just... too cute... It made me want to pinch you.”

Jaejoong went bright red instantly. “D-don’t—“, he stammered the words as he averted his eyes, looking anywhere but Yunho. “D-don’t say... t-that...” he bit his lip.

Yunho’s eyes never strayed from Jaejoong as he lowered his gaze, transfixed on the way Jaejoong bit his lips. “Why.. why do you keep biting your lips, Kim?”

“...h-huh?” Jaejoong looked at Yunho, dumbfounded. “I... I didn’t realize... that I was biting my lips,” he told Yunho, looking at him nervously.

“Look at me properly, Kim,” Yunho told the smaller man, voice full of authority.

Jaejoong looked at Yunho and then quickly looked away, feeling bashful and conscious of his own feelings... his sinful feelings for the man.

“What’s wrong?” Yunho asked and decided to tease as he rubbed his chin. “Am I... not handsome enough?”

“T-that’s not it...” Jaejoong muttered, eyes once more on the floor. “Y-you just made me feel so nervous....”

“Really?” Yunho pondered. “Just... look at me for five minutes?”

“Ugh...” Jaejoong swallowed nervously as he looked up. Licking and biting his lips, he asked,” Why... why do you want me to look at you so much..?”

“Hm..” Yunho hummed and coughed. “I just... want to look at your pretty face.”

Jaejoong’s eyes widened. His face went impossibly redder. “Am.. am I... that pretty...?”

“Hm..” Yunho looked thoughtful for a moment. “..ugly then,” he whistled playfully.

Jaejoong frowned as he pursed his lips. “Just because you are handsome... doesn’t mean I’m ugly.”

That sent Yunho toppled over as he laughed his heart out. “It’s not like that.”

Jaejoong’s brows grew taut together only deeper. “I want to be handsome, too... looking handsome.”

“You can at times,” Yunho told him kindly. “But... the feminine features will always etched in your face, too.”

Jaejoong slumped against the couch as he sighed. “I envy you... You are so handsome... and manly,” he told him dreamily.

Yunho let out another laugh, “You can ask my mom about it, Kim.”

“Hm? Ask about what?”

“How I could be born with this handsome face.”

“Braggart!” Jaejoong punched Yunho’s shoulder lightly. Yunho only laughed harder. “When I meet her next time, I will make sure to not only ask her that... gotta ask how could she give birth to such boastful person,” Jaejoong narrowed his eyes, a hint of amusement was at his lips.

“Jung,” Jaejoong retorted, teasing.

Another cry ensued.

“Yah!! Is it bully time again!??” Jaejoong screeched after Yunho smacked him.

“No,” Yunho laughed as he told him. “Oh, it’s this time already?”

“Huh?” Jaejoong followed Yunho’s line of sight. The digital clock showed that it was already past 12 PM.

“I have to go, Jaejoongie. Sorry,” Yunho looked apologetic as he scrambled to his feet, getting ready to leave.

Jaejoong’s heart sunk as the feeling of having to be separated from the man rushed over him. The split, the separation back in 2010, had not only affected Yunho and Changmin. Jaejoong had to overcome separation anxiety complex over time. He had done much better now, though. Much better. “Do you... do you have to go?”

Yunho looked at Jaejoong only for a moment, not trusting himself enough to not leave if he had looked at Jaejoong’s pained look more than a second. “Yes... I have a schedule arranged after lunch time.”

“But... but I will still see you around?”

Chuckling, Yunho ruffled Jaejoong’s hair. “Why do you sound like I’m never meeting you again? We haven’t made the snowman.”

“Oh...” Jaejoong blinked as he smiled. “...right. You have to come again for the snowman. And bring Changmin next time, too.”

Yunho nodded, mumbled an ofcourse with a smile. With that, he was out of the apartment, leaving Jaejoong to his own devices all over again... in a big-spaced apartment with only his stuffed toys and pets to keep his sanity at bay.

For some reason it feels like Jaejoong is really lonely and empty.
He lost the thing which fills him and his life.

He does feel lonely. I tried to conveyed his loneliness in between the lines. Glad you saw through that.
